MOUNT VERNON – Rams sophomore
Kyriacos Photiou found the back of the net with nine minutes to go in the match Saturday at Cornell Soccer Field. The penalty kick secured the tie with Beloit (2-2), giving Cornell a point in the MWC standings.
Cornell (0-6-3 overall, 0-1-2 MWC) took the early lead when senior
Erwann Hiernaux used some nifty ball work to score with a left foot shot to the top of the net, the goal was Hiernaux's first of the season.
Beloit (0-10-1 overall, 0-2-1 MWC) scored with 12 minutes to go before half on a penalty kick by Colin Frank. Then they added a goal a minute into the second half to take a 2-1 lead, before Photiou penalty kick tied it up for the Rams.
The Rams outshot the Buccaneers 24-18, with Photiou leading the way with seven shots. Senior
Sam Burmeister and
Holden Arthaud-Day each attempted three shots. Photiou had five shots on goal and Arthaud-Day had three.
Goalkeeper Kian Farrel played all 90 minutes in the net, finishing with eight saves.
