MELBOURNE, FL – Cornell softball opened the season with two wins in coach
Robin Brand's collegiate debut at Space Coast Complex on Friday. Rams defeated New England 7-3 in game one and Baruch 12-1 (5-innings) in game two.
In game one
Corrin Kennedy finished a home run short of hitting for the cycle, going 3-of-4. Kennedy scored two runs and had two RBIs.
Peyton Souhrada put Cornell on the score board first in the top of the fourth, when she drove in Kennedy from third with a double to right field. Souhrada finished 2-of-4, adding a triple and scoring a run.
Monet Roelle added two hits for the Rams.
Elise Oleson and
Linnea Drever each had a double, as Cornell out hit the Pilgrims 11-2.
Lauren Summers picked up the win for Cornell, throwing 3.2 innings of scoreless ball.
In game two
Lexi Ellermeier pitched a complete game to pick up the win for the Rams. She gave up four hits, one earned run and stuck out six.
The Rams offense was led by
Alexa Corona with three hits; she also scored three runs.
Oleson had two hits, including a double. Kennedy added two hits, including a two-run home run in the top of the first.
Oleson had two RBIs, and Kennedy added three.
Brooke Furman doubled to left center in the fourth, as the Rams out hit Baruch 12-4.
Coming up – Rams continue their spring break trip in Melbourne, FL with two games on Sunday. They face Fitchburg State at 1:30 pm and UW-Superior at 3:45 pm.
