JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Despite the Rams matching conference leading Illinois College (22-10, 9-1 MWC) hit-for-hit on Saturday at Jessica Kamp Field, they drop two to the Lady Blues (Game 1: 1-2 and Game 2: 6-9).
In game one the Rams (15-11, 3-5 MWC) and Lady Blues each had five hits. Cornell picked up three of the hits in a seventh inning rally that fell short.
Linnea Drever started the seventh inning with her second hit of the game.
Elise Oleson moved her to second with a single.
Peyton Souhrada singled to load the bases.
Brianna Risley hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Drever for the Ram's lone run.
Brooke Furman added a single in the sixth inning for the Rams.
Senior
Daelynn Rhoades started the game for Cornell, going four innings. Rhoades allowed no earned runs and struck out six.
Lauren Summers pitched two hitless innings in relief.
In game two Illinois College jumped out to an early 6-0 lead through four innings, before Cornell mounted a comeback that came up a little short. The Rams outscored the Lady Blues 6-3 over the last three innings.
Cornell matched Illinois College's eight hits in game two.
Corrin Kennedy led the way with two hits for the Rams.
Monet Roelle and Summers each hit a double. Furman, Drever, Souhrada and Risley rounded out the hitting with each picking up a single.
Summers notched two RBI's, with Drever, Oleson and Souhrada each knocking in one. Six different players scored for the Rams, Furman, Kennedy, Drever, Souhrada, Risley and Roelle.
Coming up – Rams celebrate Senior Day at Van Metre Family Softball Field on Sunday, before taking on Beloit (3-29, 1-7 MWC). Game times are 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
