Box Score 2 WAVERLY, IA - The Cornell College women's tennis team wrapped up an undefeated 14-0 spring season, with two victories over Wartburg (19-10) and the University of Wisconsin Stevens-Point (19-4), on Sunday.
The Rams (24-3, 4-2 MWC) took the doubles to start the morning over the Wartburg College Knights, with wins at No. 1 from juniors Michaela Clark and Mac Graves, 6-0, and No. 2 from junior Tansy Graves and freshman Annika Dox, 6-4. Senior Audrey Small and sophomore Jenna Benkufsky fell in a tightly contested 6-4 loss at No. 3.Â
The Rams continued to roll through, taking 5 of the 6 singles matches in straight sets. Clark finished 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, Mac Graves finished 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, Tansy Graves finished 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, Small finished 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4, and Dox pulled out a close 7-5, 7-5 bout at No. 6. Benkufsky pulled through a tiebreaker at No. 5, 6-7 (2), 6-3, 10-5.
In the afternoon, the Rams dropped the doubles point against the Pointers. Clark and Mac Graves finished at No. 1, 6-0, and pairs of Tansy Graves and Dox, and Small and Benkufsky fell at No. 2 and No. 3, 7-5, and 7-6 (1), respectively.Â
The Rams bounced back in singles, winning 5 of the 6 singles matches in straight sets. This is the sixth meet this season Cornell has won the meet after a doubles point deficit.
A regionally ranked singles matchup at No. 1 between Clark and Chloe Regal wrapped up first, which Clark took 6-1, 6-3. The Graves sisters brought the match score to 3-1, with a 6-0, 6-0 scoreline at No. 2, and 6-1, 6-1 scoreline at No. 3. Benkufsky clinched the match at No. 5, with a 6-4, 6-1 victory, followed by Small at No. 4, 6-2, 6-4. Dox fell in a tightly contested match, 6-1, 0-6, 10-3, falling short in the tiebreaker.
Coming up - The Rams will travel to play in Madison, WI on Saturday, May 2, against #70 Lake Forest in the MWC Team Tournament. First serve is set for 3:00.
