MADISON, WI. – Cornell had its dual season come to an end in Friday's 4-0 semifinal loss to No. 2 seed and 45th ranked Lake Forest in the Midwest Conference Men's Tennis Tournament at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the campus of University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The third-seeded Rams, who entered the tournament after a 4-2 mark in conference action, closed at 14-12 overall. Cornell took third in the MWC regular season for the fourth consecutive year.
The Foresters (16-6 overall) defeated No. 1 seed and 19th ranked Grinnell College 4-3 in the championship match to earn their first conference tournament title in program history.
The Foresters swept doubles to take the doubles point entering singles play. Cornell provided resistance with close first sets in a number of spots throughout the lineup.
In the three finished singles matches,
Jack Saunders lost 6-0 6-0 at No. 2,
Zachary Ong fell 6-3 6-1 at No. 3, and
Drew Campbell dropped his match 6-1 6-1 at No. 4.
Trent Devore,
Henry Lambley and
Mills Arnold went unfinished in their singles bouts as Lake Forest clinched the meet.
The Rams now prepare for the MWC Individual Championships, contested Saturday and Sunday in Madison, WI.
