MOUNT VERNON – On Tuesday evening the Rams faced ARC conference tournament qualifier Coe in a Bremner Cup match up at Van Metre Family Softball Field, falling 7-1.
Coe (24-13) jumped out to an early 7-0 lead through two innings, which proved to be enough. Cornell (22-13) would shut the Kohawks out the rest of the game but couldn't muster enough offense to make a comeback.
The Rams put one run on the board in the bottom of the fifth, when
Monet Roelle singled to left field.
Ella Cooper came in to pinch run for Roelle and stole second base. Cooper would score on a single by
Brooke Furman.
Cornell was outhit by the Kohawks 10-5.
Linnea Drever doubled for Cornell, and
Alexa Corona,
Peyton Souhrada, Roelle and Furman each singled.
Coming up – Rams travel to Pella to face Central College in a double header on Thursday. Game one starts at 2:00 pm.
