Rams blank NACC preseason favorite, start fall slate 3-0

Clinton, IA – The Cornell women's tennis team kicked off dual match play with three sweeps over Buena Vista University, Millikin University, and the Illinois Institute of Technology, over the course of this past weekend.

On Saturday at home, the Rams (3-0) started fast against the Beavers (0-2) in doubles, with a 6-4, 6-2, 6-0 scoreline for the three matches respectively. The Rams continued to move through singles, with straight set wins at all six singles positions. 

Against the Big Blue (1-1), the Rams carried the momentum from the morning, with another sweep for the doubles point, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1. Following the trend, the Rams took straight set victories once again over all singles positions. 

On Sunday, the Rams traveled to a neutral site match-up to play preseason NACC favorite Scarlet Hawks (0-1), beginning with the doubles point from wins at all three positions. The Rams once again swept singles with all straight sets.

Freshmen Emmie Kinder and Megan Bruns completed their first collegiate dual matches this weekend, highlighted by wins over various teams. Kinder finished the weekend 5-0, with three doubles and two singles victories, primarily at the No. 2 doubles and No. 4 singles position. Bruns finished the weekend 2-0, with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Buena Vista, and a 6-1 win over Millikin with sophomore Mirabel Pinkerton.

Coming up: The Rams travel to Des Moines, Iowa, to play two matches next Saturday, starting with #12 NAIA Morningside University, followed by Grand View University in the afternoon.
