MOUNT VERNON – Rams head women's soccer coach
Francis Lee picked up her first collegiate coaching win in a decisive 4-1 victory over Buena Vista on Friday night at Cornell Soccer Field.
Cornell (1-3) scored three goals in the first half, while shutting out the Beavers (0-3-1). Freshman
Rebecca Huerth started the scoring for the Rams, netting her first collegiate goal at the 5:42 mark of the first half. Huerth goal was assisted by
Mia Belitz.
Belitz picked up her second assist of the night, when
Eva Plathe found the back of the net at the 9:47 mark. Freshman
Kiana Garcia Rios finished out the first half scoring with her first collegiate goal on an assist from
Ava Ferencz.
Plathe scored her second goal of the game with 11:31 left in the game on a free kick assist from
Gracie Lambrecht.
Rams outshot the Beavers 27-18, with 14 shots on goal. Plathe led Cornell with seven shots, five on goal. Huerth attempted five shots, with
Ayah Habhab and Garcia Rios each taking four shots.
Ana Munn Carstensen finished with three shots on goal for Cornell.
Goalkeeper
Violet Fiers played in the net for the first 66 minutes, finishing with eight saves.
Sydney Newberg finished the game picking up one save.
Coming up – The Rams travel to Eureka, IL on Sunday to face Eureka in a non-conference match up. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
