Box Score 2 MOUNT VERNON, IA - The Cornell College women's tennis team split its two matches Sunday, earning a 6-1 victory over Coe College in the afternoon after falling 6-1 to Wartburg College in the morning.
Cornell opened the day against Wartburg, with junior Jenna Benkufsky picking up the Rams' lone point in a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles. Cornell also battled through several tight matches, including a pair of three-set contests at No. 3 for Kortney Travis and No. 5 singles for Mirabel Pinkerton.
The Rams bounced back in the afternoon against Coe, sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. Cornell's No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams won 6-3, 6-4 and 7-5, respectively.
Cornell carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of six matches. The Rams earned straight-set victories at Nos. 2 through 6 singles, from Travis, Isabella Wallin, Meredith Maxwell, Pinkerton and Megan Bruns.
All six Rams finished their Sunday with 2-2 individual records.
Coming up: The Rams return to MWC action to wrap up the fall season on the road at Illinois College and Monmouth College on Ocotber 10th.
