Former University of Iowa standout Chad Beatty joined Cornell College's wrestling staff on July 30, 2012.

Beatty, a Wilton native, was a four-year letterwinner and two-time national qualifier at 197 pounds for the Hawkeyes. He helped lead Iowa to three consecutive Big Ten and NCAA team championships from 2008-10.

Beatty spent the past two seasons as assistant coach at perennial power Iowa City West High School, which crowned four individual state champions and produced five Division I wrestlers under Beatty's guidance. West won the Class 3A dual team title in 2011 and took second in the traditional tournament. The Trojans finished third in both 2012 tournaments.

"Obviously, Chad is a proven coach and has been involved with a highly successful scholastic program at Iowa City West," Cornell head coach Mike Duroe said. "We're real excited to have him in our program. He has a very good sense for wrestling talent and is real passionate about the sport. That passion will serve him well at this level."

Beatty fashioned a 50-25 career mark as a three-year starter for the Hawkeyes. He was a two-time placewinner at the Big Ten Championships, including a fourth-place finish in 2009. Beatty compiled a 24-4 dual record over his final two seasons. He was a two-time recipient of the Mike J. McGivern Award, presented annually to the team's most courageous wrestler.

Beatty won two individual state titles at 171 pounds during a record-setting prep career at Wilton. He posted two undefeated seasons and finished 109-7 with 45 pins. As a red-shirt freshman at Iowa, Beatty was crowned champion (84 kilos) at the 2006 FILA Junior National Championships.

"Chad's experience as a competitive athlete will be invaluable in our program," Duroe said. "Our athletes will take full advantage of him on staff."
