Kahl became Cornell's Sports Information Director in July 2007 after serving two years in the same role at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. He was promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications in August 2023.
Kahl was named 2022-23 Small College SID of the Year by the National Wrestling Media Association.
Kahl handles all communications coverage for the 20 NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports on the Hilltop. Under Kahl's direction, the Rams have hosted 23 conference tournaments and eight NCAA championship events, including the institution's first-ever NCAA Volleyball Regional in 2023. Cornell has crowned 137 conference individual champions, 28 conference team champions, 18 NCAA team qualifiers, 78 all-Americans and three national champions since Kahl's arrival.
Kahl, recipient of Cornell's 2014 Staff Appreciation Award, is an active member of College Sports Communicators (CSC). He was Midwest Conference Chair of the Sports Information Directors Committee from 2020-23, while also serving on the MWC Championships Committee during that span.
A 1995 graduate of Clarence-Lowden High School, Kahl earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Central College in 1999. While at Central, Kahl played baseball and worked in the sports information department four years under Hall of Famer Larry Happel.
Kahl was sports editor at the Mount Pleasant News (1999-2000) and sports writer at The Hawk Eye in Burlington (2000-2005).
Kahl and his wife, Melissa, reside in Lisbon with their daughter Kamryn, 17, and son, Klayton, 14.
