MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's women's soccer team dominated the visiting Iowa Wesleyan Tigers, beating them by a score of 9-0.
The Rams' (8-4-1 overall, 3-0-1 MWC) unbeaten run is now up to seven matches.
Lily Dahlstrom (SR/Mount Vernon, Iowa) led the Rams' attack by scoring a hat trick of goals in the game. Sam O'Brien (SO/Evergreen, Colo.) scored the opening goal from a pass by Sofia Schnur (SR/Redwood City, Calif.) just under eight minutes into the game. Dahlstrom scored her first of the match three minutes later.
Emma Daugherty (SO/Herriman, Utah) scored her first goal of the season at the 21:11 mark to give Cornell a 3-0 lead. Daugherty is the Rams' 12th different goal scorer on the year. Maddalin Doran (FR/Maple Grove, Minn.) concluded the scoring in the first half when Sydney Hancox (FR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) set her up with a great pass to give the Rams a 4-0 lead going into halftime.
The Rams started fast in the second half as Sofia Schnur scored a goal from O'Brien's low cross just under a minute after the game was restarted. Schnur scored her second goal three minutes later. At the 51:51 mark in the game, the Rams benefitted from an own goal by Iowa Wesleyan.
Lily Dahlstrom scored the final two goals for Cornell to complete her hat trick. Her second was at the 57:03 mark of the game after a mistake by an Iowa Wesleyan defender misplayed a pass. Her third goal was scored with under a minute remaining. She was in the right place at the right time after a shot rebounded off the post right to her.
Cornell attempted a whopping 43 shots in the game to Iowa Wesleyan's (0-8-1 overall) none. Dahlstrom attempted 11 shots during the game. Renee Wuest (JR/Minneapolis, Minn.) took eight shots. Layne Pullen (JR/Vail, Ariz.) and Schnur had four shots each. Daugherty took three shots in the match. Cali Pfleger (SR/Racine, Wis.), Nicole Trenholm (SO/Plainfield, Ill.), Dajana Scott-Smith (JR/Aurora, Colo.), Gabriella Garcia (SO/Bakersfield, Calif.), and Annika Beckmen (FR/Minneapolis, Minn.) all had two shots. Maddalin Doran, Hancox and O'Brien attempted one shot.
Nicole Trenholm started the game in goal for the Rams. She played the first 51 minutes in net. She also received some time as a field player during the second half of the match. Elise Thomason-Larsen (SO/Superior, Colo.) finished the final 39 minutes of the game completing the Rams' 6th shutout of the season.
