WATERTOWN, Wis. – Cornell's women turned in another dominant performance Thursday, outshooting Maranatha Baptist by a 30-3 margin en route to a 2-0 nonconference soccer victory on the road.
Coach Jose Fajardo's Rams (9-4-1) recorded their seventh shutout of the season, and fifth in the last six matches. The nine wins are the most in a season since the Rams went 9-8-1 during the 2013 campaign.
Sofia Schnur (SR/Redwood City, Calif.) provided both goals in the match leading the Rams to the victory. Her two goals in the game bring her season total up to nine, which leads the team.
She scored the first goal of the game just after the 22-minute mark off an assist by Layne Pullen (JR/Vail, Ariz.). Cornell would take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Schnur scored the second goal just after the 60-minute mark to seal the victory over Maranatha (4-5 overall).
The Rams had ten players record shot attempts in the match. Schur led the attack with ten shots. Sam O'Brien (SO/Evergreen, Colo.) and Sydney Hancox (FR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) attempted four shots each. Pullen took three shots in the game. Avery Wyse (JR/Arvada, Colo.), Maddalin Doran (FR/Maple Grove, Minn.), and Lindsay Smith (JR/Lake Villa, Ill.) attempted two shots apiece. Dajana Scott-Smith (JR/Aurora, Colo.), Annika Beckmen (FR/Minneapolis, Minn.), and Emma Daugherty (SO/Herriman, Utah) each had one shot.
Cornell held a 7-0 advantage for corner kicks in the contest.
Elise Thomason-Larsen (SO/Superior, Colo.) starting the game in goal for the Rams. She played the first 45 minutes of the match. Nicole Trenholm (SO/Plainfield, Ill.) played the second half at goalkeeper.
