MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's women's soccer team continued their unbeaten run beating Lawrence University 4-0. The win improved their unbeaten streak to nine matches, as well as helped them keep pace with MWC leader Knox.
In the Rams' (10-4-1 overall, 4-0-1 MWC) unbeaten run, they have won eight of the nine matches including six straight.
On Senior Day, all four of Cornell's seniors played a part in the victory. Sofia Schnur (SR/Redwood City, Calif.) assisted her team leading seventh goal. Lily Dahlstrom (SR/Mount Vernon, Iowa) recorded an assist, her first of the season, as well. Ashley Quesada (SR/Blaine, Wash.) had two shots narrowly missing a goal on both attempts. Cali Pfleger (SR/Racine, Wis.) provided quality defensive support, along with Quesada, to help to keep the shutout in the match.
All four of the goals were scored in the second half. Georgia James (SO/Rock City, Ill.) began the scoring with a first-time effort off of a low cross by Schnur just under three minutes into the second period. James scored her second goal four minutes later.
Sam O'Brien (SO/Evergreen, Colo.) scored the third goal for the Rams at the 65:01 mark from a pass by Emma Daugherty (SO/Herriman, Utah). Dajana Scott-Smith (JR/Aurora, Colo.) finished the scoring with a superb run after receiving a pass from Dahlstrom.
Cornell outshot Lawrence (9-6-0 overall, 2-3-0 MWC) 18-3 for the game. O'Brien led the team with five shot attempts. Schnur attempted four shots. Sydney Hancox (FR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa), Scott-Smith, James, and Quesada had two shots apiece. Maddalin Doran (FR/Maple Grove, Minn.) had the other shot for the Rams.
Elise Thomason-Larsen (SO/Superior, Colo.) starting the game in goal for the Rams. She played the first 64:39 of the match. Nicole Trenholm (SO/Plainfield, Ill.) played the final 25:21 at goalkeeper. Both keepers made one save in the game.
