MONMOUTH, Ill. – Cornell's women's soccer team remained undefeated in Midwest Conference play with a 3-0 road win over Monmouth on Saturday. Monmouth came into the game on a five-match win streak and leading the MWC.
The Rams (5-4-1 overall, 2-0-1 MWC) played a strong all-around game in beating the Scots (9-2-1 overall, 2-1-0 MWC).
Layne Pullen (JR/Vail, Ariz.) opened the scoring ten minutes into the game to give the Rams the early lead. Sofia Schnur (SR/Redwood City, Calif.) gave the Rams a 2-0 lead 18 minutes into the second half on a beautiful pass from Sydney Hancox (FR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa). Georgia James (SO/Rock City, Ill.) scored the final goal off an assist by Sam O'Brien (SO/Evergreen, Colo.) with 16 minutes left in the match.
Cornell attempted 12 shots in the game. Sam O'Brien led the Rams with four shots. Sofia Schnur attempted three shots. Dajana Scott-Smith (JR/Aurora, Colo.), Ashley Quesada (SR/Blaine, Wash.), Maddalin Doran (FR/Maple Grove, Minn.), James and Pullen had one shot each.
Elise Thomason-Larson played the first 81 minutes in goal for the Rams and made seven saves. Nicole Trenholm (SO/Plainfield, Ill.) finished the final nine minutes, keeping the shutout for Cornell.
