DUBUQUE – The Cornell women's soccer team opened their season Friday night, dropping a 3-1 decision on the road at NAIA's Clarke University.
Maddalin Doran (FR/Maple Grove, Minn.) scored her first collegiate goal in her first match as a Ram. Her assisted score from Dajana Scott-Smith (JR/Aurora, Colo.) pulled the Rams within 2-1 with 17 minutes left in the game.
Clarke (2-1) took a 1-0 lead to halftime. The Pride scored 13 minutes into the second half and once more with eight minutes remaining to seal the contest.
The Pride outshot the Rams 8-3. Cornell's Sydney Hancox (FR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) recorded a shot on goal in her first collegiate match. Cali Pfleger (SR/Racine, Wis.) had Cornell's other shot attempt.
Elise Thomason-Larsen (SO/Superior, Colo.) played the full 90 minutes in goal for Cornell (0-1), recording four saves.
Coming up – The Rams have their home opener Sunday against Nebraska Wesleyan (1-0) at 1 p.m.
