PELLA – Cornell's men's soccer team fell to in-state foe and undefeated Central College, 4-1, Tuesday afternoon at Kuyper Athletic Complex.
Justin Howe (SO/Sedalia, Colo.) provided Cornell's lone goal at the 72:41 mark from an assist by Vance Wicker (FR/Baldwin, Wis.).
Central scored with just seven minutes off the clock in the first half to gain an early lead. The Dutch took a 2- 0 lead into halftime with a penalty kick 10 minutes before the intermission.
The Dutch (5-0) also scored quick in the second half scoring twice in 20 seconds, four minutes into the second half to complete their goal tally.
Cornell was outshot by the Dutch 17-6. Howe attempted four of the Rams six shots. Andrew Lopez (FR/Aurora, Colo.) and Galen Westervelt (FR/Lopez Island, Wash.) had the other two attempts. Central also held a 10-3 advantage on corner kicks for the game.
Starting goalie Tom Gallagher (JR/Cincinnati, Ohio) played the first 73 minutes for the Rams while making one save. Dylan Terrell (JR/Hickory Hills, Ill.) finished the final 17 minutes also making one save.
