MOUNT PLEASANT – Cornell's men's soccer team battled Iowa Wesleyan to a 1-1 tie after double overtime Saturday.
Sam Duff (JR/Fort Collins, Colo.) gave the Rams the lead in the first half with his penalty kick 22 minutes into the game. The goal was his first of the season. Cornell would take the 1-0 score into halftime.
With just 11 minutes left on the clock Iowa Wesleyan (0-4-1) scored the equalizer to send the game to overtime. Neither team would find the winning goal after two overtime periods.
The Rams were outshot by the Tigers 18-13. Galen Westervelt (FR/Lopez Island, Wash.) led the Rams with five shots. Duff, Tyler Davis (JR/St. Andrews, Jamaica), and Blake Soto (FR/Oak Park, Ill.) each had two shots in the game. Andrew Lopez (FR/Aurora, Colo.) and Justin Howe (SO/Sedalia, Colo.) had the other attempts on goal for Cornell.
Tom Gallagher (JR/Cincinnati, Ohio) played the whole game in goal for the Rams making six saves. All of them coming in the second half and the first overtime period.
Coming up – The Rams are back at home against Simpson College at 3 p.m. Thursday.
