MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's women's soccer team fell 3-2 in a tightly-contested nonconference match with UW-Stout during a steady rain shower Saturday.
Sofia Schnur (SR/Redwood City, Calif.) led the Rams with a goal and an assist on the day. Her goal off a pass by Sydney Hancox (FR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) tied the game at 2-2 with 35 minutes left in the match.
Cali Pfleger (SR/Racine, Wis.) scored Cornell's first goal off a cross by Schnur 12 minutes into the game to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.
After Pfleger's opener, UW-Stout (2-4) scored the next two goals to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. UW-Stout scored the winner seven minutes after Schnur had tied the game.
Cornell (2-3) outshot the Blue Devils 16-11 in the game. Schnur led the Rams with six shots. Dajana Scott-Smith (JR/Aurora, Colo.) attempted four shots, Sam O'Brien (SO/Evergreen, Colo.) three, Sydney Hancox two, and Pfleger one to round out the efforts.
The Rams also held a 6-3 advantage for corner kicks.
Elise Thomason-Larsen (SO/Superior, Colo.) played the full 90 minutes in goal for Cornell. She made five saves, all of them coming in the second half.
Coming up – Cornell hosts Fontbonne University at 12 p.m. Sunday.
