Lincoln, NE – Cornell's men's soccer team dropped a close battle with Nebraska Wesleyan Sunday 2-1.
Neither team found the back of the net in the first period. However, it took Nebraska Wesleyan just four minutes to score after play resumed in the second half.
The Rams answered back with a goal of their own eight minutes after the Prairie Wolves took the lead. Facundo Benavidez (SR/Buenos Aires, Argentina) scored the goal from a cross by Tyler Davis (JR/St. Andrews, Jamaica). The goal is his first of the season.
Nebraska Wesleyan (5-2-1) grabbed the winning goal with 24 minutes left in the second half.
The Rams (1-5-1) were outshot 13-10. Benavidez led the Rams with five shots. Enzo Vanzillotta (SR/Porto Alegre, Brazil) attempted two shots. Sam Duff (JR/Fort Collins, Colo.) and Jari Gottgens (FR/Nootdorp, Netherlands) each had one shot.
Tom Gallagher (JR/Cincinnati, Ohio) played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Rams. He made four saves.
