MOUNT VERNON – The Cornell women's soccer team evened the 2019-20 Bremner Cup All-Sports Series with a hard fought 2-1 win over rival Coe Wednesday on the Rams' home turf.
The Rams (3-4) gained control early with two first-half goals and held on late for their first series win over the Kohawks (5-3-1) since 2014. The victory squared the Bremner Cup standings at 2-2 through four fall competitions.
Sofia Schnur (SR/Redwood City, Calif.) scored the first goal for the Rams, beating a few defenders before she put the ball in the net at the 23:36 mark. Ashley Quesada (SR/Blaine, Wash.) scored the second goal from an excellent free kick 15 minutes after Schnur's opener. The goal was Quesada's 5th on the year and her second goal from a free kick.
Coe would get one goal back just after the 70 minute mark of the game.
Cornell attempted nine shots in the game. Five players had shot attempts; Dajana Scott-Smith (JR/Aurora, Colo.), Avery Wyse (JR/Arvada, Colo.), Sam O'Brien (SO/Evergreen, Colo.) and Schnur had two shots apiece. Quesada had the other shot attempt.
Starting goalkeeper Elise Thomason-Larsen (SO/Superior, Colo.) played the first 62 minutes making one save. Nicole Trenholm (SO/Plainfield, Ill.) finished the game in net, also making one save.
