BELOIT, Wis. – Cornell's women's soccer team began Midwest Conference play with a 2-1 win over Beloit Saturday.
The Rams (4-4 overall, 1-0 MWC) found themselves down 1-0 at the half. However, they answered back with two second-half goals to seal the victory.
Layne Pullen (JR/Vail, Ariz.) tied the game at 1-1 less than 10 minutes into the second half. Maddalin Doran (FR/Maple Grove, Minn.) scored the winning goal with less than 10 minutes to play. Both goals were assisted by Sofia Schnur (SR/Redwood City, Calif.), who now has a team-high four assists on the season.
The Rams dominated Beloit (1-7 overall, 0-1 MWC) in total shot attempts, 17-3. Schnur led Cornell with five shots. Dajana Scott-Smith (JR/Aurora, Colo.) had four shots. Ashley Quesada (SR/Blaine, Wash.), Sam O'Brien (SO/Evergreen, Colo.) and Doran had two shots each. Sydney Hancox (FR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and Pullen had one shot apiece.
Elise Thomason-Larsen (SO/Superior, Colo.) started the game in net for the Rams. She played the first 58 minutes. Nicole Trenholm (SO/Plainfield, Ill.) played the final 32 minutes in goal, making one save.
Coming up – The Rams travel to play Lake Forrest College (5-3-2 overall, 0-0-1 MWC) in an MWC matchup at 11 a.m. Sunday.
