MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's men's soccer team fought undefeated Bethel strong for the entirety of Saturday's game, but fell 1-0 in the first overtime period on Youth Day.
The Rams celebrated Youth Day by inviting youth soccer participants onto the field with the team before the game as well as perform drills and games during halftime.
Ben Richburg scored the winning goal for the Royals (4-0) with just over one minute remaining in the first overtime period to win the match.
Cornell (1-2) outshot the visitors 16-10. Tyler Davis (JR/St. Andrews, Jamaica) and Facundo Benavidez (SR/Buenos Aires, Argentina) each attempted four shots for the Rams. Blake Soto (FR/Oak Park, Ill.) and Abdulla Awaji (JR/Tampa, Fla.) each had two shots. Cornell attempted eight corner kicks to Bethel's four.
Tom Gallagher (JR/Cincinnati, Ohio) played the full game in goal for Cornell, making one save.
Coming up – The Rams travel to play Americans Rivers Conference foe Central at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Pella.
