Jordan Magnani and
Logan Sharp posted double-doubles as Cornell's surging men's basketball team concluded its 2021 slate with a 64-51 road win Monday night over Simpson.
The Rams were victorious for the seventh time in their last eight outings, bumping their season record to 8-4. Cornell moved to 5-1 in road contests.
Magnani led all scorers with 19 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds, giving the senior guard his second double-double of the season. The 6-foot-9 Sharp recorded double-digit rebounds for the fifth consecutive game, finishing with 10 boards and 10 points.
The Rams got it done on the defensive end, holding Simpson (4-5) to 30.6-percent shooting and owning a 50-37 advantage in rebounds. Cornell limited the home team to just seven made field goals and 21 points in the second half, when the Rams took control of the game.
Cornell broke open a four-point lead with a 12-2 run in the second half. Magnani had six points during the spurt that put the Rams ahead 58-44 with 4:46 remaining.
Senior
Cooper Kabela contributed 15 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Marcus Quirk added 13 points and five boards.
Logan Christensen also had five rebounds.
The Rams overcame a tough 3-of-21 shooting night from 3-point range. Simpson managed only two second-chance points the entire game.
Cornell gets a return game with Simpson Jan. 3 when the teams meet at 7 p.m. in Mount Vernon.
