MOUNT VERNON – Cornell cashed in 30 points off Iowa Wesleyan turnovers for a home-opening 73-53 women's basketball win Thursday night in the Small Sport Center.
It was Cornell's second lopsided victory over the Tigers in five days. The Rams improved to 2-0 on the season.
Cornell's balanced attack had 10 players score, led by an efficient 15-point performance from Kali March (FR/Littleton, Colo.). The freshman guard hit 4-of-6 field goals, including three 3-pointers, and went 4-of-4 from the foul line.
Newcomer Ilah Perez-Johnson (FR/Bettendorf, Iowa) contributed 12 points and seven points off Cornell's bench. Sophomore Madison Wauters (SO/Winterset, Iowa) also netted 12 points to go with six boards, a team-high four assists and two blocked shots.
Madison Osborn (SO/Alburnett, Iowa) scored nine points. Freshman Taeylor Reece (FR/San Tan Valley, Ariz.) had six points and five rebounds.
The Rams built an 18-8 cushion after one quarter and used an 18-4 flurry late in the second to take control. Cornell played with a double-digit lead the entire second half.
Cornell won the battle on the boards, 43-31, and was near-perfect from the free throw line, going 12-of-13. The Rams outscored Iowa Wesleyan's bench, 29-2.
Cornell hurried the Tigers (0-4) into 20 turnovers for the second game in a row.
