MOLINE, Ill. – Augustana's pitching staff quieted Cornell's bats in an 8-0 baseball shutout Thursday afternoon at Swanson-Brunner Field.
The undefeated Vikings (8-0), receiving national votes in the D3baseball.com Top 25 Poll, limited the Rams (0-10) to two hits in the nine-inning contest. Collectively, Augustana's seven pitchers faced just two batters over the minimum.
Tony Neuman (JR/Hainesville, Ill) and Mitch Lawson (SR/Davenport, Iowa) each had a single for Cornell, which gave up four runs in the second, one in the sixth and three more in the seventh.
The Rams used 24 players in the game. Cornell sent eight different pitchers to the mound, none of whom threw more than 1.1 innings.
The Rams received scoreless outings from starter Preston Wright (SO/Orlando, Fla.) and relievers Carter Kriegel (SO/Tama, Iowa), Evan Parshall (FR/Riverside, Calif.), Bobby Petersen (SO/Queen Creek, Ariz.) and Eric Medenblik (SR/Fulton, Ill.).
The Vikings totaled seven hits, four going for extra bases.
Coming up – The Rams head north Friday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Midwest Conference foe St. Norbert (6-1) in De Pere, Wis. Friday's originally scheduled trip to No. 3 nationally-ranked Wash U. has been canceled due to poor field conditions.
