MOUNT VERNON – The Cornell men's lacrosse team fell behind early and couldn't catch up Saturday afternoon in Midwest Lacrosse Conference action. The Rams dropped their second consecutive game to the University of Northwestern – St. Paul, 27-5.
For the first time this season fans filled the stands to cheer on the Rams at Van Metre Field at Ash Park, but Northwestern's (2-3 overall, 2-0 MLC) offense spoiled the show. It took the Eagles just 33 seconds to score the game's first goal and they went on to build a 17-1 halftime lead.
Ethan Kupka (SO/Thornton, Colo.) recorded the lone Rams' (1-3 overall, 1-2 MLC) first half goal, and tacked on one more in the second half. Kupka also set up Warren Wiberg (SO/Valley Center, Calif.) for a score two times in the third quarter. Wiberg scooped up a game-high six ground balls.
On the night, the Eagles fired off 77 shots compared to the Rams' 19. The Eagles had three players net five goals apiece, led by Keller Stephens five goals and six assists.
Evan Begner (FR/Evergreen, Colo.) spent the full 60 minutes in Rams net, recording 18 saves in the loss.
