Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Augsburg surges past Rams in final MWLC match

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Cornell was neck and neck in its season finale with the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference regular season runner-up until the midway point of the first half. A 3-3 tie against Augsburg College in Minneapolis Saturday night turned into a 9-4 deficit at the break, and a 14-6 Rams' loss.

Carrie Callahan (JR/Iowa City, Iowa) got the Rams rolling less than four minutes into the game on a power play goal. After a couple goals put Augsburg (5-5 overall, 5-1 MWLC) up 2-1, Ellie Nestingen (JR/St. Paul, Minn.) tied it up with a solo score. Nina Deer (JR/Highland Park, Ill.) quickly followed up another Auggie goal to tie it 3-3 with 16:16 left in the first half.

The next 16 minutes Augsburg fired off a 6-0 run until Anne Methe found the back of the net off a helper from Nina Deer just 13 seconds before the half.

Cornell (3-7 overall, 0-6 MWLC) again scored first to open the half from the stick of Raquel Gassmann (JR/Santee, Calif.). This time Augsburg used a 4-0 run over a 20 minute span to put away the Rams. Nina Deer netted the final Rams goal with 6:18 remaining.

Augsburg used a 19-11 shot advantage, and recorded six more draw controls in the first half to jump on the Rams early.

Seanne Biallo and Nestingen scooped up five and four ground balls respectively. Maddie Altoff and Sierra Harris (SR/Green Bay Wis.) each spent a half in net for Cornell. Althoff collected five saves in the first half, while Harris stopped two in the second.
