LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Cornell's women's basketball team erupted for 48 second-half points and rallied for a 73-63 Midwest Conference win at Lake Forest Saturday afternoon.
The Rams (3-4 overall, 2-0 MWC) picked up their second conference road win of the week and kept pace with Lawrence as the only unbeatens in MWC play.
Cornell drained a season-high 11 3-point goals, four coming from senior guard
Madison Osborn who led all scorers with 18 points – one shy of her career high.
The Rams charged back from a 41-31 deficit early in the third quarter. Cornell caught fire from long range during a 13-2 spurt.
Megan Gandrup hit a 3-pointer and then
A'ryn Jackson canned back-to-back triples that pushed the Rams ahead 44-43.
Tied 47-47 through three quarters, Cornell opened the final period with consecutive 3-pointers from Osborn and Jackson, giving the Rams a lead they wouldn't relinquish. After Lake Forest pulled within 62-60, Gandrup answered with a clutch 3-pointer with 2:06 remaining that ultimately finished off the Foresters (1-5 overall, 0-3 MWC).
Kali March enjoyed another solid all-around performance with 11 points, seven assists and four steals. Gandrup and Jackson added 11 and nine points, respectively, each sinking three 3-pointers.
Cornell's balanced attack had
Ani'ja Simmons with eight points, followed by
Madison Wauters and
Rachael Adewusi with seven apiece. Simmons, Wauters and Adewusi shared team-high rebounding honors with six boards apiece.
