MOUNT VERNON – The Rams ran into another tough foe on the final day of the Cornell Classic, dropping an 89-60 women's basketball decision to Carroll (Wis.) Sunday inside the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
Senior guard
Kali March represented Cornell on the All-Tournament Team after posting 13 points and four assists in the finale against Carroll (2-0). March totaled 20 points, nine assists and six steals in the two games.
March was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Illinois Wesleyan's Lauren Huber and Ava Bordic, Carroll's Olivia Rangel and Luther's Chelin Isaacson. Illinois Wesleyan and Carroll both finished 2-0 on the weekend.
The Rams (0-3) had three scorers reach double figures Sunday, including
Rachael Adewusi and
Ani'ja Simmons with 12 points apiece. Adewusi also grabbed a game-high six rebounds, giving her 17 total for the Classic.
Carroll, a 17-win team a season ago, shot 52.4 percent from the field and used its pressure defense to score 27 points off Cornell turnovers. The Pioneers led 46-27 at intermission.
Randi Wright had five rebounds and
Mia Murray handed out four assists for the Rams, who also shot it well at a 44.0-percent clip. March drained three of the team's six 3-point goals. Cornell went 10-of-12 from the free throw line.
Coming up – Cornell plays host to Wartburg at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
