MONTGOMERY, ILL. – Cornell men's lacrosse fell to Aurora College 22-1 after a dominant offensive outing from the Spartans left the Rams short in their pursuit of a win.
The Rams (1-2) saw themselves down after five unanswered goals in the first quarter by the Spartans (2-0). Fifth-year Kyle Jussila gave the Rams their only goal of the game at the 14:25 mark in the second half.
Jussila's goal was his 11th of the season to lead the team. He has 11 of the 17 total goals the Rams have scored this year while also leading the team in points (14).
Ground balls and shots were the difference maker in the game. The Rams had 14 ground balls and 17 shots compared to the Spartans' 57 ground balls and 69 shots.
Sophomore Torii Greiskalns led the Rams with four ground balls while sophomore Thomas Cook had two. Jussila led the team in shots as he had nine with three being on goal. Freshman Jack Burton finished with three shots, two being on goal.
Cook finished with 18 saves after 60 minutes of play. Cook has had 10 or more saves in four straight games.
Pura Reilan and Kimmy Gorecki had three goals each for the Spartans.
