MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's women's lacrosse team netted a season-high 17 goals and
India Smith established a single-game program record for ground balls in Wednesday's 17-2 rout of UW-Stout at Van Metre Field at Ash Park.
Smith breaks the previous record held by Ebele Bay-Coffie since 2015 when she had 10 ground balls.
The Rams (6-4) had five multi-goal scorers in
Cece Zanoni,
Meg Lewis,
Anna Methe,
Sabrina Ibanez,
Brynn Miroslavich, and
Hailey Sieler in the win over the Blue Devils (0-6)
Zanoni, the Rams' leader in goals, had four in the win to move to 26 goals on the season.
Meg Lewis and
Anna Methe each finished with three goals. Lewis also had one assist and two draw controls. Methe had an impressive stat line with three goals, five ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
The incredible defense from the Rams created 39 turnovers for the Blue Devils, for the second most in program history. The Blue Devils were held under 10 shots through four quarters of play.
The Rams only trailed after giving up a goal in the first minute of play, they would go on to score 16 straight goals to get their biggest margin of victory win this year.
Goalies
Hannah Miech received the win after collecting two saves after only allowing one goal.
Kathryn Andries collected one save and allowed one goal in 30 minutes of play.
