DES MOINES – Cornell's women picked a prestigious place for historical performances Friday, sprinting to a pair of school records at the 113th running of the Drake Relays at Drake Stadium.
 
The 4x100 relay of junior Caitlyne Mar, senior Madison Osborn, junior Sidney Brown and senior anchor Natalie McAllister blazed around the blue oval in a Cornell all-time best 48.87 seconds Friday morning. The quartet broke its own program record of 49.12, established April 14 at the Cornell Invitational.
 
The Rams placed third in their prelims heat and took 12th overall out of 20 finishers in the college division. Minnesota State ran the fastest prelims time in 44.91. The top-eight qualifying mark for the finals was 47.88.
 
Early Friday evening, the Rams took down another school record in the women's sprint medley relay. First-year Alyza Koppes anchored the team of Osborn, Mar and Brown to a swift time of 4:16.02, breaking the previous program standard of 4:16.25 set in 2003.
 
The sprint medley placed fourth in its heat and finished 11th overall out of 15 finishers. Minnesota State was crowned champion in 3:53.52.  
 
Cornell had four athletes compete in distance races Thursday night at the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola.
 
First-year Thomas Coble ran a personal-record 9:46.28 in the 3000 steeplechase, placing 31st out of 41 finishers. His time ranks No. 2 in the Midwest Conference.
 
Katie Lammers finished 47th out of 100 in the women's 5000, crossing in 18:34.61. Noah Lutzke (15:40.41) and Tyler Bilskie (16:24.34) placed 71st and 94th, respectively, in a field a 113 runners in the men's 5000.
 
Coming up – The Rams have three entries scheduled for Saturday's Drake Relays. The men's distance medley goes off at 8:30 a.m. and the women's distance medley at 9 a.m. Hailey Carolan competes in the high jump at 1 p.m.
