MONMOUTH, Ill.– The Cornell women's tennis team improved to 21-1 against Midwest Conference opponents Illinois College and Monmouth after winning both duals, 6-3 and 5-4 respectively, Saturday on the road.
The Rams moved to 4-3 overall with a 2-1 MWC record after a dominant weekend against Illinois College (1-5, 0-2 MWC) and Monmouth (3-4, 0-2 MWC).
The win in Jacksonville, Ill. against Illinois College pushed the Rams to 5-0 when going up against the Lady Blues on the road, and 10-1 overall in the matchup history.
With a sweep at doubles by
Mac Graves and
Makayla Johnson (8-1) at No. 1,
Tansy Graves and
Isabella Wallin (8-3) at No. 2, and No.3 featuring partners
Audrey Small and
Reagan Hines (8-4), the Rams took a 3-0 advantage over Illinois College which they never looked back from.
With dominant wins by
Tansy Graves at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-2),
Mac Graves at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-2), and Small at No. 3 (6-1, 6-4) the Rams captured the win against the Lady Blues.
The Rams came all the way back from a 4-1 deficit against the Scots after seniors
Ashley Mink and Johnson clinched the team win for coach
Trent Schneider's largest comeback in his career and only the second time in his career where the women's team has rallied from a doubles deficit to win.
In the 11th straight series win over the Scots, Johnson won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, and Mink at No. 6 singles didn't drop a game in the 6-0, 6-0 win to capture the team win.
