WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Cornell women's tennis team picked up a dozen wins over a strong two-day performance at the ITA Regional/Midwest Open, highlighted by the program's first main draw victories in singles and doubles since 2018.
The Rams finished 12-10 overall, including an 11-8 mark in singles play.
Tansy and
Mac Graves had impressive outings competing in the ITA singles and doubles main draws.
Tansy Graves secured a 7-5, 6-1 singles win over Wartburg's Georgia Nissen in the Round of 128. She fell in the next match 6-3, 6-2 to Concordia Wisconsin's No. 14 Ricki Budewitz.
Tansy Graves split two consolation matches, including an 8-2 win over Loras.
The Graves sisters went 1-1 in the ITA doubles flight. They coasted to an 8-2 first-round victory over UW-Superior. The Graves then fell 8-3 to UW-Whitewater.
Mac Graves led the Rams with a 4-2 singles record, reeling off four consecutive consolation wins against Loras (8-0), Luther (8-7), Carroll (8-1) and UW-Eau Claire (8-0). She dropped a tight 8-6 decision to Gustavus Adolphus' Ella De Young in the consolation final.
Teammates
Isabella Wallin and
Audrey Small competed in the Midwest singles and doubles draws. Small finished 3-2 in singles, while Wallin went 2-2.
In the round of 16, Small won over Chihiro Ono of Wartburg in three sets 6-3, 4-6, and 10-4. In the quarterfinals, Small faced Mia Andrae of Concordia Wisconsin, falling 6-4, 6-0.
Small won twice more in consolations, 8-4 against Addy Farber of UW-Eau Claire, and 8-3 against Quinlyn Mack of UW-Stevens Point to move to the consolation quarterfinals. Her quarterfinals match saw her fall to De Young of Gustavus Adolphus, 8-0.
Wallin dropped her opening match 7-5, 6-1 to Loras. She came back to record two consolation wins.
Coming Up – The Rams travel to play St. Ambrose at 1:30 p.m. next Saturday, Sept. 30 in Davenport.
