MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's men's tennis team made its season debut Sunday, hosting the Cornell Invitational with a full day of individual matches played on campus and at Mount Vernon High School.

Trent Schneider's Rams had eight players compete in the four-team flighted event, which included squads from Central, Grinnell and Augustana.
First-year Rams
Trent Devore and
Mills Arnold collected their first collegiate wins, pairing in Flight B doubles for an 8-7 (7-5) victory over Augustana.
Devore also notched a 6-1, 7-6 win in Flight B singles over Central. He finished the day 2-2 in all matches.
Sophomores
Zachary Ong and
August Krahn both went 1-1 in their singles draws. Ong rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Central in his opening match. Krahn battled his way to a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 victory against Central.

Edwin Holyoake,
Evan Davis and
Lincoln Rener also took the courts for the first time this fall.
Coming up – The Rams are on the road Saturday for an 11 a.m. dual against NAIA's St. Ambrose in Davenport.
