DUBUQUE – Men's soccer juniors
Aidan Lerch and
George Archer each had a pair of goals in the Rams' 6-5 loss to Clarke University on Thursday night in a back-and-forth match.
Lerch had two goals and two assists after 74 minutes of play to give him six points in total. Archer, last year's leading goal scorer, tagged his first two goals of the season at the 22-minute and 57-minute marks.
After trailing by two goals in the first half, Lerch and Archer tied the game for the Rams (1-2-1) with a little over seven minutes left in the half. A goal by Pride's (1-0) Tommy Rea put them up 3-2 over the Rams at halftime.
Another goal by the Pride saw the Rams down 4-2 but an Archer goal assisted by Lerch brought them within one score. Both teams would go on to score two more times to make the score 6-4 with less than 10 minutes left.
With only 2:31 remaining,
Gaurab Khadka scored his second goal of the season to make the score 6-5 as the Rams closed the distance. The Rams' effort at the end wasn't enough for the comeback.
Goalkeeper
Floris Huiskers faced 24 shots and had eight saves in the 90 minutes played.
Coming Up – The Rams travel to Cedar Rapids to face Coe on Thursday at 7 p.m. for a Bremner Cup matchup.
