Cotton victorious in Cornell's first-ever women's wrestling dual

INDIANOLA – Cornell competed in its first-ever women's wrestling dual meet Thursday night, dropping a 39-9 decision to Simpson inside Luther Hill Wrestling Center.
 
Coach Boston Jacobs' Rams (0-1) picked up two match victories, including a 10-0 technical fall at 143 pounds from sophomore Olivia Cotton.
 
Cotton needed only 1:53 to finish off April Archibeque in the first period. The team leader in wins, Cotton improved her season record to 12-8.
 
The Rams received five team points from freshman Grace Fort, who won by forfeit at 191.  
 
Simpson (12-3) collected forfeit wins at four weight classes and built a 29-0 lead through six bouts.
 
At 123, Cornell's Cheyenne Mulford lost by fall in 4:30 to Ashley Cannon. Cornell 130-pounder Kara Rivard gave up a 10-0 technical fall to Lily McMahon.
 
Cornell newcomer Moorea Brown injury defaulted early in the first period at 155. Simpson's Kassidee Savaria pinned Emma Stevenson in 29 seconds at 170.  
 
Coming up – The Rams compete at the Division III Championships Feb. 3 in East Moline, Ill.
