Archer tallies 40th career goal in 2-1 loss at Knox

GALESBURG, Ill. – Cornell's men's soccer team fell from the ranks of Midwest Conference unbeatens with a 2-1 setback to Knox Tuesday at Jorge Prats Field.

The Rams (4-8-1 overall, 2-1-1 MWC) remain in solid shape halfway through the MWC season, standing third with seven points and four matches left to go.

Senior George Archer pulled the Rams even at 1-1 with a penalty kick in the 36th minute. It was the 40th career goal – and 15th PK – for Cornell's three-time all-conference performer.

Knox (4-7-2 overall, 1-2-1 MWC) netted the go-ahead goal at the 68-minute mark and held off the Rams down the stretch. The Prairie Fire scored their first goal eight minutes into the contest.

The tightly-contested match saw the Prairie Fire hold a 10-9 edge in shots. Cornell had five corner kicks, to Knox's four.

Coming up – The Rams play host to Ripon (9-4 overall, 1-3 MWC) at 11 a.m. Saturday on Senior Day.
