MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's volleyball team was on a mission from the opening whistle and breezed past Lake Forest by scores of 25-7, 25-7 and 25-14 in a brisk 54-minute Midwest Conference sweep Friday night inside the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
The Rams (14-11 overall, 5-0 MWC) dominated in all facets and raced to their seventh consecutive victory. They still have company atop the MWC standings in Grinnell, which also remained unbeaten with Friday's sweep over Ripon.
Cornell posted a season-best .411 attack percentage with 44 kills and was sharp from the service line with 11 aces.
Junior
Carly Puffer triggered Cornell's 8-0 run to start the night, smashing an opening kill followed by seven consecutive service points. She hit a sizzling .600 for the match with 10 kills.
Ilah Perez-Johnson topped the 1,500-kill mark for her career, converting a match-high 14 spikes against the Foresters (4-19 overall, 3-4 MWC). The fifth-year also tallied 13 digs for her 15th double-double of the season.
Senior setter
Clare Green recorded her 1,000th career dig, becoming the 12th Ram to reach that milestone. The group includes two current teammates in junior
Ella Becker (1,380) and Perez-Johnson (1,366). Becker led all players with 16 digs Friday.
Green handed out 23 assists for a Cornell attack that misfired just seven times on 90 swings.
Ally Olmstead connected for eight kills on .615 hitting.
Kiana Manson added six kills.
Nia Howard led Cornell's strong service game with three aces.
Kensie Staats and Puffer had two aces apiece.
