MOUNT VERNON – Cornell senior sharpshooter
Zach Ingle netted his 1,000th career point in Saturday's 102-61 men's basketball loss to Central inside the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
Ingle achieved the scoring feat on a jump shot at the 14:50 mark of the first half. The 6-foot-5 guard tallied all 10 of his points in the opening half and boosted his career total to 1,006 through 84 games with the Rams.
The reigning Midwest Conference Performer of the Week, Ingle became the 26th member of Cornell's 1,000-point club. He's the third Ram to reach the milestone under coach
Dave Schlabaugh, joining all-time scoring leader Jordan Magnani (2018-23) and Cooper Kabela (2017-22).
Ingle is averaging a team-high 18.7 points per game this season.
The Rams (4-2) had a four-game winning streak snapped against an impressive Central squad (2-2) that drained 18 3-point goals, hitting at a 42.9-percent clip from long range. The Dutch also utilized their size for a 61-32 rebounding advantage against Cornell, which played without its second-leading scorer in
Dylan Hurley (15.2 ppg).
Senior guard
Connor Barnett came off the bench to pace the Rams in scoring with 11 points.
Arnav Jain pitched in nine points. The Rams received five rebounds apiece from Ingle, Barnett and
Jaylan Bradberry.
Saturday's contest featured 83 3-point attempts between both teams and 34 total players used. The Dutch were led by Joshua Van Gorp with 24 points and Owen Schipper with 22.
Coming up – The Rams open Midwest Conference play Dec. 4 against MWC preseason favorite Illinois College. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. in Jacksonville, Ill.
