MOUNT VERNON – Cornell senior guard
James Stimson buried a deep 3-pointer from the left wing in the closing seconds, stamping Saturday's 79-62 Senior Day victory over Midwest Conference men's basketball foe Lawrence inside the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
The Rams (8-15 overall, 5-9 MWC) completed a season sweep of Lawrence (5-19 overall, 3-12 MWC), fueled by a hot 50.9-percent shooting performance in which they connected for nine 3-point goals.
Sophomore transfer
Nate Jacobson got the Rams going early, netting 14 of his season-high 20 points in the first half. Jacobson finished 5-of-6 from 3-point land for the game.
Junior
Zach Ingle tossed in a team-best 21 points, 15 coming in the opening half as the Rams built a 41-26 lead at intermission. Ingle sank three 3-pointers to give him 70 for the season, the third-highest total in program history.
Jayden Meeker had a terrific all-around game with 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Dylan Hurley led all players with 11 rebounds, to go with nine points and four assists.
Logan Christensen added five rebounds in only 10 minutes on his Senior Day.
Cornell's lead ballooned to as many as 22 points midway through the second half. The Vikings chiseled the margin to 69-61 with 3:27 remaining. The Rams countered with a 10-1 spurt to close it out.
The Rams won the battle on the boards, 37-28, and shot 16-of-20 from the foul line with 17 of the attempts coming in the second half.
Eighteen Rams played in the contest, including the senior trio of Stimson, Christensen and
Mason Meyer.
Coming up – The Rams play their final home game at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday against Monmouth (13-9 overall, 7-6 MWC).
