BELOIT, Wis. – Cornell's balanced attack connected for 10 3-point goals as the Rams picked up a must-win over third-place Beloit, 71-61, in Midwest Conference men's basketball action Saturday at Flood Arena.
The Rams (7-14 overall, 4-8 MWC) shot 43.5 percent from beyond the arc and had four scorers reach double figures, led by
Zach Ingle's game-high 17 points. Cornell, which split the season series with Beloit (13-8 overall, 7-6 MWC), moved within two games of fourth-place Monmouth with four games to go.
Ingle set the tone for Cornell, draining three 3-pointers during a 60-second stretch early in the opening half. He finished 5-of-9 shooting from long range.
Nate Jacobson totaled 16 points and four 3-point goals.
Julian Cleary was a big boost off the bench with 14 points, shooting 5-of-7 from the field and 4-of-4 from the foul line.
Jayden Meeker collected 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Dylan Hurley added nine points, six boards and three steals.
The Rams built a 31-21 cushion at intermission and broke away early in the second half. A 3-pointer by Meeker gave Cornell its largest lead of the game at 50-30 with 12:09 left in regulation.
Cornell held the Buccaneers to 35.6-percent shooting, including just six made field goals in the first half.
Azeez Ganiyu paced Beloit with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Coming up – Cornell is home Wednesday to face Ripon (7-14 overall, 5-7 MWC) at 5:30 p.m. in the Small Athletic and Wellness Center. Ripon won the first meeting, 70-58.
