RIPON, Wis. – Cornell's baseball team continued its offensive tear Saturday, although had to settle for a split with Midwest Conference foe Ripon at Francis Field.
Seth Beals and
Sean Alvarez both homered in Cornell's 10-8 Game 2 win. Ripon rallied for a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to take the opener, 8-7.
The Rams, who have scored 61 runs in their last six games, moved to 13-12 overall, 4-7 in the MWC.
Cornell and Ripon (7-14 overall, 4-6 MWC) battle Sunday in the rubber game of the series at noon in Ripon, Wis.
Junior right-hander
Agustin Velazquez (2-2) earned the Game 2 victory, holding the Red Hawks to two earned runs over six innings. He recorded a season-high eight strikeouts.
Beals,
Cade Parks and
Ridge Bowolick had two hits apiece for the Rams, who led 10-3 through seven innings. Beals scored three runs and drove in two.
The Rams were positioned well in Game 1, building a 7-3 lead after Bowolick's two-run homer in the seventh. Ripon came back to tie it at 7-7, and then singled home an unearned run with one out in the ninth to win it.
Alvarez belted his team-high seventh homer of the season, a two-run shot in the seventh.
Kale Rose was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle, going 3-for-5.
Parks and Bowolick both had two hits and two RBIs.
Sophomore pitcher
Cameron Anderson gave the Rams a quality start, yielding two earned runs and striking out five over six innings.
