MADISON, WI. – Cornell had its dual season come to an end in Friday's 5-0 semifinal loss to No. 2 seed Lake Forest in the semifinals of the Midwest Conference Men's Tennis Tournament at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the campus of University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The third-seeded Rams, who entered the tournament winning five of their last seven, closed at 17-8 overall. Cornell took third in the MWC regular season and tied the program record for most dual wins in a single season.
The Foresters (14-6 overall) claimed their fourth consecutive dual win and advanced to the championship to face top-seeded Grinnell Friday afternoon. The champion earns the MWC's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
The Foresters swept doubles to take a 3-0 lead entering singles play. Cornell provided resistance with close first sets up and down the lineup.
In the two finished singles matches,
Federico Polidori lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 and
Trent Devore fell 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3.
The Rams now prepare for the MWC Individual Championships, contested Saturday and Sunday in Madison, WI.
