Devore, Arnold capture runner-up finishes at MWC Championships

Box Score MADISON, WI. – Trent Devore and Mills Arnold wrapped up stellar rookie campaigns this afternoon at the MWC Individual Championships at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the campus of University of Wisconsin-Madison. Both Devore and Arnold captured runner-up finishes in their respective singles brackets, being just the second and third singles players for the Rams to reach the finals since the 2018 event. 

Devore, playing at No. 3 singles, defeated Ty Rondestvedt of Ripon (6-4, 6-2) and Kyle Lassen of Lake Forest (6-2, 7-6) on his way to the championship match. Aidan Klass of Grinnell prevailed in the finals, winning 7-6, 6-2. 

Arnold who was in the No. 5 singles bracket, took down Ripon's Corey Mooney (6-1, 6-3) and Grinnell's Charles Yung (6-3, 6-4) to reach his respective final. A thrilling championship match saw Lake Forest's Felipe Vazsonyi come out on top in a two-hour 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 final. 

The freshmen finished off their first collegiate seasons in style. Devore collected 38 wins, while Arnold won 36 times on the year. 

Cornell fielded semifinalists in the remaining singles brackets, as well as all three doubles brackets. Alexander Hadler-Strumlauf prevailed in his opening match at No. 1 before dropping a 6-0, 6-2 semifinal decision to eventual champion Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk of Lake Forest.
 
Federico Polidori at No. 2, Zachary Ong at No. 4, and Edwin Holyoake at No. 6 all came up one win short of advancing to the finals in their respective singles draws.
 
Hadler-Strumlauf concluded a strong season with 40 total wins, leading the team. Finishing with 122 total career wins, he ends up third on the all-time career wins list for the men's tennis program. Polidori collected 29 victories this season, and he finishes with 90 total career wins, good for top ten on the all-time wins list. 

The Rams finish 17-8 overall, tying the program record for total dual wins in a season.
