CEDAR RAPIDS – Cornell's baseball team fell short, 12-5, in its annual rivalry game with Coe Saturday afternoon at Daniels Park.
The Rams (9-10) left 10 runners on base, including eight over the final four innings that prevented any comeback against the Kohawks (13-10).
After trailing 6-0, the Rams struck four times in the top of the sixth to get within 6-4. The Kohawks regained control with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Then in Cornell's seventh, Coe escaped a bases-loaded no-out jam without surrendering a run to keep the comfortable lead.
Freshman
Cade Parks went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run to pace the Rams.
Kale Rose tallied two hits and scored two runs.
Cornell starting pitcher
Agustin Velazquez gave up four hits and four earned runs over 3.2 innings.
Both teams finished with eight hits.
The Kohawks earned one point in the
2023-24 Bremner Cup All-Sports Series, increasing their lead to 11-3.
Coming up – The Rams host Grinnell Wednesday for a 4 p.m. Midwest Conference doubleheader at Ash Park Field.
