LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Cornell's men had their season end in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference Tournament Wednesday afternoon, falling 20-1 to top-seeded Lake Forest in a semifinal at Farwell Field.
The fourth-seeded Rams returned to the four-team MLC field for the fourth consecutive season. They bowed out to the Foresters for the third year in a row.
Cornell closed the spring with a 6-9 overall record, after going 1-3 in MLC play.
The Rams delivered the first punch against the undefeated MLC regular-season champion, scoring just two minutes into the game. Junior
Matt Norwood netted an unassisted goal – his 22nd of the season – that put Cornell ahead 1-0 early.
It was all Lake Forest (14-2) after that. The high-powered Foresters struck seven times in the opening quarter and increased the lead to 11-1 by intermission. The home team added six goals in the third quarter, and three more in the fourth.
Junior
Torii Greiskalns paced the Rams with a game-high six ground balls.
Alex Wallis,
Tyler Foster and
Aidan Didier accounted for two caused turnovers apiece.
The Foresters fired 71 total shots, putting pressure on Cornell's all-conference goalie
Thomas Cook, who registered 15 saves in 45 minutes.
Nathan Diveley posted six saves in the fourth quarter.
