MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's women's soccer team lit up the scoreboard with seven first-half goals en route to an 11-0 thumping of visiting Mount Mary in
Sarah Campbell's coaching debut for the Rams Saturday afternoon.
Junior
Gwen Westervelt and first-year
Eva Plathe tallied four goals apiece to pace Cornell's aggressive attack, which attempted 50 shots in the match. Cornell dominated possession throughout, holding the Blue Angels (0-1) without a single shot.
The Rams recorded the program's largest margin of victory since a 12-0 win at Iowa Wesleyan on Sept. 20, 2015. Cornell's 11 goals are two more than the team scored all of last season.
First-year
Emma Krambeck started the scoring less than two minutes into the match, and the rout was on. Westervelt delivered three of her goals in the opening half.
Jillian Shriver,
Krystin Kamrath and Plathe netted one goal apiece before intermission.
Plathe found the back of the net three more times in the second half, and sandwiched a fourth goal by Westervelt.
Cornell newcomers
Sydney Newberg and
Camryn Aikanoff combined for the shutout as goalkeepers. Newberg worked the opening 67 minutes of action.
