MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's talented first-year
Eva Plathe scored her Midwest Conference-leading sixth and seventh goals of the season in Sunday's 5-2 nonconference loss to visiting Marian.
The Rams (1-4) hung tough most of the way on a warm afternoon and trailed 2-1 with less than 25 minutes left to play. The Sabres (3-4) gained separation with a pair of goals within a three-minute stretch, building the lead to 4-1 with 19:39 remaining.
Plathe made the most her three shots on the day. She connected on a pass from
Gwen Westervelt in the 24th minute, pulling the Rams even at 1-1.
In the 74th minute, Cornell's
Alicia Lopez recorded her first collegiate point with an assist on Plathe's final goal of the match.
Krystin Kamrath logged all 90 minutes at goalkeeper for the second consecutive match. She faced 15 shots and posted four saves.
Emily Graciano came off Cornell's bench and attempted two of the team's five shots.
